IM-04.INDD.10 + HVC-10
up to 3 x 400/690 VAC

Principle of operation

The system is equipped with a disconnection contactor which is controlled by the IMD. When the system is started, the disconnection contactor is open, disconnecting the load network from the supply network. At the same time, the NC auxiliary contacts of the disconnection contactor connects the supply network to the measurement input connectors of the IMD. When the load network is supposed to be connected to the supply network, a command is sent to the IMD through the Modbus RTU interface. After receiving the connection command, the IMD disables insulation monitoring and powers the disconnection contactor, which connects the load network to the supply network and disconnects the measurement inputs from the load network. Disconnecting the load network from the supply network works the same way in the opposite manner.

The disconnection contactor must have 4 NO contacts and 2 NC auxiliary contacts. A suitable type is, for example, ABB AF116B-40-22-13 for up to 55 kW loads or some higher power version of the similar type. The voltage rating of the auxiliary contacts must be suitable for the network voltage.

Muuntosähkö Oy – Trafox is expanding its operations in the Joensuu area.

Trafox is a brand of Muuntosähkö Oy, under which we develop and manufacture high-quality transformers, chokes, filters and Trafox Superintend® monitoring devices with over 70 years of experience. Our production facilities are located in Helsinki (Finland), Joensuu (Finland), Viljandi (Estonia) and Suzhou (China).

In order to be able to meet the needs of both our domestic and export customers better in the future, we are increasing Trafox Group’s total production area to 23,000 m2 by opening a new 4,000 m2 factory in the Joensuu area, where we will move the production of Trafox Transformers and Trafox chokes of larger current and size classes.

In order to ensure the quality and safe development of our products in the future as well, we are starting preparations for the new factory by investing in new machines and testing equipment required by international electrical standards. After these important initial preparations, we start production in three separate phases:

  1. In autumn 2024, we will first start with the Trafox air- and water-cooled Power Electronics chokes – max 3kA in the new premises.
  2. Next up are Trafox air- and water-cooled Power Transformers, size class 500kVA – 3MVA.
  3. Thirdly, our selection expands to Trafox Medium Voltage Reactors – max 11kV.

The new facility will be fully started, and all of these phases will be conducted in about two years.

With this remarkably increased capacity, we will also reorganize our current Joensuu production facility to ensure more space for our already strongly growing Monitoring device production. Our innovative Trafox Superintend fault current and insulation level monitoring devices are used by our customers in tens of thousands of different industrial, hospital, electric vehicle charging equipment, renewable energy, shipping, construction, and heavy industry applications around the world.
