No wiring mistakes!
Self-testing of Monitoring unit, Measuring cable and Sum Current Transformer.
Accurate measuring values also with harmonic current.
Alarm time delay to avoid false alarm.
VR-14 can be used for:
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
ON-LINE Monitoring of insulation of the Electrical System, cables, motors, ovens, heating systems, air-conditioning etc
POWER QUALITY PURPOSE
Monitoring of wiring in a grounded Electrical System and separate sensitive electronic devices, noise isolated circuits...
TN-S, TT AND HIGH RESISTANCE
GROUNDED ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
Monitoring that there is no Neutral to Ground connections on the load side of a Electrical system.
 |
 |
 |
For Monitoring Grounded
(TN-S) Electrical System
Immediate alarm is generated if a faulty connection is made or if a device with insulation damage is connected to the Electrical System. This is the only way to make sure that your Electrical System is clean. The best personal as well as fire safety are achieved when the Electrical System is clean. With a clean Electrical system the Power Quality is better less disturbance voltages and smaller voltage differences between different grounding points.
|
Ground Fault Relay for
protection of 1- and 3-phase
Electrical Systems
Used for protecting devices and small Electrical Systems from ground faults or electric arcs. Please note! Ground Fault Protection relay unit is not the same as Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).
|
Monitoring of
the service load
VR-14 can be used for monitoring the current of a 1-phase Electrical System. It is suitable for example for Service Centers where it can be monitored if a stove or other appliance has been left on. Another example of its use is critical networks. The current value can be supervised and an alarm will be received before the over current breaker trips.
|

|
Monitoring Insulation
As time goes by, the electrical insulation (in motors, ovens, cables etc.) weakens and the leakage current increases. By on-line monitoring of leakage current, weakened insulation can be detected before the circuit breaker trips and production is shut down. The preventive maintenance can be done in time!
|
 |
Ground- Fault
protection of equipment. The NEC 230-95 use.
Ground-Fault protection of equipment shall be provided for solidly grounded wye electrical services of more than 150 volts to ground, but not exceeding 600 volts phase-to-phase for each service disconnecting means rated 1000 amperes or more.
|

Reset of alarm
The alarm can be acknowledged manually by Reset push-button, when the fault current is
below the treshold value. If automatic reset is needed, use the model VR-15. Not in use in USA models. |
Alarm time delay setting |
 |
The time delay is set by potentiometer t/s (2).
The set value is shown on the display
The set value d 0.20 is 0.2 second.
The alarm delay settings are:

Self testing
The Superintend VR-14 continuously monitors the condition of the entire measuring system and its own operation condition. If one part of the system is damaged, an alarm is generated. If, for example, the signal cable coming from the sum current transformer is loosened or open, the VR-14 generates an equipment alarm. Blinking F-letter. The relay has also tripped.
 |
The alarm is shown on the display.

Connections of Superintend VR-14
VR-14/10 and VR-14/100 |
 |
When the monitoring unit is energized (on) both relay J2 & J3 contacts 1-2 are closed. When the relay is in standby position and an alarm or power failure occurs both relay J2 & J3 contacts 1 3 are closed. Shown on picture.
Operating voltage is connected to terminal J4.
The measuring standard cable (VMP) from sum current transformer must be connected to terminal J10.
|
VR-14/1 |
 |
Sum Current Transformer is inside of monitoring unit. Inner diameter of transformer is 5/8" (16 mm) |
Examples of VR-14 unit connections
Monitoring electrical system |
 |
In this application the VR-14 is a monitoring unit for a Grounded Electrical System.
The unit generates an alarm if, for example: - a wiring error occurs in the Electrical System,
- the insulation level drops below the set level,
- somebody connect a device with ground fault in to the Electrical System.

Installation of Measuring Cable
The monitoring unit requires a measuring cable VMP-xx. Connect this cable to terminal J10 of the monitoring unit. The standard cables have plugs on each end and it is easy to connect without tools or risk of incorrect connection.
The cable is available in lengths: 2 ft, 6 ft, 16 ft and 32 ft ( 1, 2, 5, and 10m).
For USA models max length is 16 ft.
The smallest sum current transformer VMI(K)-25 is supplied with a fixed measuring cable. The standard length is 2 ft (1m). Also available by special order are cable lengths of 6 ft, 16 ft and 32 ft (2, 5, and 10m).
For USA models only 2 ft is available.
